An economics graduate of the University of Minnesota, Brian Baldwin began his distinguished business career while still an undergraduate student. Initially joining UPS in Eagan, Minnesota, as an hourly employee while completing his degree, he quickly rose through the ranks to a supervisor position. In this role, Brian Baldwin managed a range of logistical operations, including distribution of consumer goods, shipping operations, and production management.
In 1991, Mr. Baldwin accepted a position as an investment banker and stockbroker with Miller, Johnson, Steichen & Kinnard in Minneapolis. Over the next 14 years, he raised millions of dollars in venture capital while spearheading a number of initial public offerings (IPOs) and private placements. He also developed expertise with retail ventures, business development, marketing, and corporate finance during this time.
Most recently, Mr. Baldwin led as the chief financial officer (CFO) for Visible Retail LLC. A startup venture involving the electronics retailer Best Buy, Visible Retail LLC developed innovative solutions using radio frequency identification (RFID) to improve the customer experience as well as conversion rates. In addition to handling typical CFO duties such as accounting, business development, and managing the legal team, he held responsibility for raising 50 percent of the venture funding for the company.
